Welcome to the Get A Life Campaign message boards!
The message boards are meant to be a way for GAL gals to connect, chat, and share experiences. Feel free to share and connect with other women in our different forum categories.
We want our message boards to be comfortable, thought provoking, helpful, safe, and easy to use. Our board policies are based on our belief that everyone has a right to free expression and that by talking openly with others we can all get the lives we deserve and become more well rounded.
Please note that users who violate these policies will be sent a warning and, if necessary, be banned from posting.
As we kick this off, I'd like to know what you think --
Is it possible to have it all... the career, the kids, the husband/wife, money, vacations, complete happiness or whatever else your heart desires?
Or was women's lib a lie?

Re:Is it possible to have it all? - 2007/04/16 22:40i think it has to do with what we are willing to give to get what we want. i.e. can one be the best mom all the time while also being the best wife, best student, best worker. i think not. i think that part of balance is the realization that things are sacrificed. sometimes you can only be a good enough mom, and a good enough worker when your spouse needs your support and vice versa. i don't think its a fixed equation and that you can be 100% in everything at all times. tough pill to swallow?

Re:Is it possible to have it all? - 2007/04/18 18:35I'd have to agree with Kanasha. It's like the old saying, being a jack of all trades but a master of none. If you are a master student or worker (and by master I mean that you have to put in extra long hours to achieve supreme status and it is now priority), your role as a wife and/or mother will likely take the hit because all of these things demand your time and you are only given 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. I know that as I invest more time into being an excellent business woman, my role as wife and keeper of the home (not to mention the disaster zone called my office) suffers because I don't have time to spend with my husband or clean. That's when I know my balance and priorities are getting confused. With balance and a very good sense of priorities, you can do well at all of your roles and even excel in a few of them. But that is just my two cents.

Re:Is it possible to have it all? - 2007/04/21 03:18I agree too... The thing is though, that the people in our lives need that memo! At some point in time, each sector of our lives will act/feel as if they are the only part.
It's like when you were in school and your one teacher gave you enough homework to last a few days and you thought to yourself, "Doesn't he/she know I have FOUR other classes?"
That's how I feel toward life... everyone wants a piece. So while balance IS the key, I think educating others in our lives to understand that you have to have this balance is equally as important.
